Rescuing dogs is expensive. There are fees to pay the shelters to get the dog out, vet fees which include shots, deworming, spay or neuter, heart worm/Lyme testing, health certificates, flea/tick preventive as well as heart worm preventatives.
Transporting  our southern dogs is expensive. We pay up to $175 per dog to get them north. 
Rescued dogs are usually underweight and need high quality food. Puppies need special food, several shots, dewormings, puppy pads, toys, vet visits,etc.
